The 2009 Newry Agricultural Show was launched at a reception in the Canal Court last night.

 Tommy Collins the Show Chairman in his speech told the guests and sponsors

"This is a special year for us as we celebrate the 140th anniversary of Newrys first Agricultural show at Buttercrane which was hosted by Newry Council. We have had our ups and downs since then and have moved venues but now eagerly look forward to June 27th at Derrymore House, Camlough Road courtesy of The National Trust."

"This years Show promises a full days fun and entertainment for the whole family and we have Formula Fun Go Karting for the kids for the first time."

" In addition to the usual sections, Special Needs, Childrens, Horticulture, Horses, Sheep and Goats my own favourite the Cattle are back this year! Additional classes have been added to some sections, in horses there is a Jump Cross for ponies and horses, in the sheep section there is other Pure Breeds and there is a childrens horticulture section and we have a milking competition for the goats, and in Home Industries there is the Irish Show Association qualifiers, in total we have 285 classes on offer. To round of the competition there is a Dog Show in association with Newry Veterinary Centre."

" I am indebted to my committee for their work throughout the year and thank in advance those who have agreed to steward. This year we have a food pavillion kindly loaned by N.I Shows Association and hope it will be a success. Weatherwise we hope for a good day, my past experience hasn’t been great, surely it can only improve this year."

" Our twin show Dundalk are holding their show on Sunday 21 June so all the finals will be held in Newry this year for the first time."
